The the HIL Professional Learning System offers a variety of resources for use with your HIL teams, staff meetings, or professional learning communities (PLCs). It includes our most recent resource of Learning Maps created by HIL Implementation Facilitators that model HIL In Action in schools.

What you'll find on this page:

  • HIL Process Guide for School Renewal: To support Facilitators in their work with schools. 
  • HIL Courses: Five EduPaths courses that will provide an overview of the HIL Model for School Renewal and show examples of how it can be applied in schools. SCECHs available.

OVERVIEW OF THE GUIDE

Part 1 provides an overview of the High Impact Leadership for School Renewal Model
as follows:

  1. Introduction and Overview of the HIL School Renewal Model
  2. The organization of the high impact leadership practices into four domains of school renewal leadership, called the HIL Principles for School Renewal.
  3. The specific leadership practices and behaviors associated with the Model

Part 2 provides a description and collaborative dialogue to guide schools through the HIL School Renewal process and embed that process into the school’s ongoing norms and processes for continuous improvement.

COURSES

Course 1: Introduction to the High Impact Leadership for School Renewal: A transformative approach for positive change

First in the series of five courses designed to introduce school leadership teams to the School Renewal approach for sustainable positive change. Time needed: 1.25 hour (SCECHs: 01:15)

Course 2 Building a Foundation for School Renewal: Phase I of the HIL School Renewal Process
 
The course takes participants into the first phase of a strengths-based approach to positive change and explores how School Renewal can be an alternative approach to deficit focused school change processes. It describes how High Impact Leadership principles and practices of School Renewal can help schools reduce the complexity of change, avoid implementation pitfalls, and keep students at the center of all change initiatives. Time needed: 1.0 hour (SCECHs: 01:00)

Course 3 – Digging Deep to SOAR to New Heights: Phase II of the HIL School Renewal Process

This course takes participants into the second phase of School Renewal designed to help schools assess their strengths and create a school performance profile and identify growth targets for positive change. Time needed:  1.00 hours (SCECHs: 01:00)

Course 4 – Mapping a Gold Standard Pathway to Evidence-based Change: Phase III of the HIL School Renewal Process

Time needed:  1.00 hour (SCECHs: 01:00 pending approval)

Course 5 – Progress Monitoring through Cycles of Transformative Change: Phases IV and V of the HIL School Renewal Process

Time needed:  1.00 hour (SCECHs: 01:00 pending approval)

ABOUT THE LEARNING MAPS
 

This catalog of Learning Maps provide HIL “In Action” plans in order to support opportunities for deeper understanding of the HIL Principles and Phases of School Renewal. They are designed to guide work sessions for teams; provide links to HIL documents, graphics, and research; and be modifiable to fit contextual needs. They can be accessed via this online catalog or through this downloadable document.

This catalog will be added to frequently. Feedback is always welcome. The first Learning Map is a template to guide the creation of new Learning Maps.

In this Learning Map In Action, Theresa King, HIL Implementation Facilitator, leads schools teams and others through the process of developing an understanding of how to create a Gold Standard Implementation Guide to implement evidence-based classroom practices with fidelity and integrity.

Creating Priority Student Growth Targets    PDF     GOOGLE

Intended Audience: HIL Project School leadership teams, school staffs, ISD/RESA literacy coach, continuous improvement consultants
Time: 1 hour
Student Priority Growth Targets are critical for aligning change efforts in order to achieve desired student growth. The School Performance Profile provides data for school teams to lift up strengths and surface growth edges.Once growth edges are revealed, the next stage of dialogue should focus on which growth edges are the highest priority.

In this Learning Map, Jeremy Andrick, former HIL Coordinator, demonstrates the rationale for using School Renewal Rounds as an ongoing process to support continuous school renewal. Participants will learn:

Embedding Four High Impact Leadership Principles    PDF    GOOGLE

This module is an introduction to the direct application of the four High Impact Leadership principles to staff meeting agendas, PLC work, and communications with all stakeholders. Participants will learn about the four HIL principles and examples of  how to directly apply them to school renewal work all throughout the year through continually development, inspiration, and focus.

In this Learning Map In Action, Teresa McDougall,  HIL Implementation Facilitator, gives examples and use cases of Data Dialogue Protocols that provide a structure for reviewing, analyzing, and using student data to make evidence based decisions at the school and classroom level. These dialogues will identify strengths and growth edges for students, classrooms, and leadership.
