HIL Model for School Renewal

The High Impact Leadership (HIL) Model for School Renewal and strategic levers for high-integrity and high-fidelity implementation were provided by WMU researchers Jianping Shen and Patricia Reeves, and they are showing real results for schools!

"Building on the work previously funded by three school leadership grants and two Wallace Foundation grants, this project will continue to develop and validate the renewal model, as opposed to the reform model, for school improvement." – Dr. Jianping Shen

Our HIL Model for School Renewal is a systems approach to complex change in schools. It is based on four powerful leadership principles that help re-energize, refocus, reframe, re-imagine, and recreate the work of achieving literacy for all students.

The HIL Project is also committed to two powerful enhancers of implementation success:

  • Fidelity—Implementation that adheres to the evidence-based features or elements
  • Integrity—Implementation that adapts to the context without abandoning Fidelity.

Our High Impact Leadership Model for School Renewal is a systems approach to complex change in schools. It is based on four powerful leadership principles and a 5-phase cycle that help re-energize, refocus, reframe, re-imagine, and recreate the work of achieving literacy for all students.
